We Need Your Help!

Why? Some 40 to 44 million -- 21 to 23% -- of the 191 million adults who live in the United States show skills in the lowest literacy level. Many cannot total an entry on a deposit slip, understand directions at their workplace, or talk to their doctor.

Illiteracy profoundly impacts our society. Low literacy skills affect the lives of both adults and their children. U.S. Department of Education statistics reveal that 60% of prison inmates are illiterate, and 85% of all juvenile offenders have reading problems.

Illiteracy is a problem. You can be a part of the solution.

Have an impact on your community by helping multiple generations improve their life accomplishments and thus contribute to their community in return (e.g., job placement/advancement, getting off public assistance, advancing education)!

Your contributions to the Literacy Volunteers of Doña Ana County (LV-DAC) will go towards helping adults learn to read, write, and speak English in a one-to-one or class environment.

LV-DAC offers free tutoring and classes for adult Learners who want to get their HSE/or take college courses, get a better job, learn how to help their children with schoolwork, manage their finances and healthcare, to learn English as a second language, to study for their US citizenship, etc.
